Lucy and the Rainbow-coloured Bird

1.

"Lucy, wake up, darling. What a lovely day!"

The little girl streched herself.

"Mummy, I wish I could sleep a little longer. Just imagine, I have dreamed about a rainbow-coloured bird."

"That is nice, but you should not sleep any longer, sweetheart, because you might be late from school. Get up quickly. Breakfast is waiting for you, Lucy."

2.

The small family sat together at the breakfast-table. Once Lucy glanced out of the window and saw something truly special: the rainbow-coloured bird that she had dreamed about. It was flying up and down in front of the window. The little girl wanted to tell about it her parents, but as she opened her mouth, the bird had already vanished.

"I think I had only imagined it" thought Lucy, and she did not say a word about it.

3.

After breakfast Lucy brushed her teeth with care, meanwhile she did not stop thinking about the rainbow-coloured bird.

"Is it really possible that the bird I dreamed about appeared at our window? Or was I so sleepy that I fell asleep at the breakfast-table and my beautiful dream continued?" she wondered. "What a puzzle!"

4.

"Today I am going to wear rainbow-coloured clothes" told Lucy to her mother. "This way I might meet that bird again" she thought to herself.

"All right, darling. Choose whatever you want to wear" said her mother. "Daddy is going to take you to the school today."

"Marvellous!" exclaimed the little girl, and she put her clothes on quickly.

She looked lovely in such jolly-coloured clothes.

5.

Her father helped Lucy with the heavy schoolbag and gave her the gym suit and sneakers.

"Bye, Mum!" waved the little girl.

"Bye, sweetheart! Have a really nice day at school" her mother kissed her lovingly.

Her father took Lucy's hand and they went away.

6.

Lucy met her friends in front of the school. They were happy to see each other.

"Take care, darling" said her father. "Do not forget to get some nice smilies for my sake."

"Bye, Dad! Have a good workday" the little girl hugged her father and then entered the school together with the other children.

7.

Lucy listened carefully at her lessons, she did her work very well. Every time she knew the answer of the teacher's question, she signed that she would answer it with pleasure. No wonder she got three smilies: the first one was of maths, the second of drawing and the third one of science. Her teacher also praised her for reading beautifully:

"Today Lucy was the best in reading" said she.

8.

The little girl often glanced out of the window during her lessons. She was hoping to see the rainbow-coloured bird again.

Her wish came true. During the fourth lesson, when Lucy had already copied the text from the blackboard, while her classmates were still writing, she glimpsed out of the window and finally saw the bird.

It was beautiful. Its feathers were just as nice as Lucy's rainbow-coloured clothes.

9.

After lunch every child got a nice red apple. While they ate them, Lucy sat right next to her best friend and told her in a low voice the story of her strange meetings with the rainbow-coloured bird of that very day.

"That is fantastic!" said Rosie. "I wish I could see that bird, too."

"Let us hope it comes back again" answered Lucy dreamily.

10.

The little girl made her homework well and quickly, so the teacher permitted her to draw on the blackboard whatever she liked with coloured chalks. Lucy did not stop to think for a moment, she draw the rainbow-coloured bird straight away.

"Well done, Lucy, this is lovely" said the teacher. "I wish there would be a bird like this in reality."

The little girl exchanged a secret glimpse with Rosie. Those two knew that the rainbow-coloured bird does exist in reality.

11.

In the afternoon Lucy went out of the school together with her friends and she noticed her mother immediately who was waiting for her outside smiling.

"Hi, Mum!" hugged her the little girl strongly.

"Hi, darling! What was your schoolday like?" asked her mother.

They waved goodbye to the other children and walked off home holding hands.

"It was very good" smiled Lucy secretively.

12.

Arrived home the little girl put down her schoolbag and run straight to the garden.

Mum let her water the flowers. Lucy was happy with that but she glanced to the sky repeatedly.

"Please do not overwater those poor flowers, darling. That is quite enough" said her mother.

"I am sorry" apologised Lucy and she tried to do it more carefully and look less at the sky.

13.

Finished her work she sat in her favourite place and started to read a nice coloured book of fairy tales. It was so good she read it from the beginning to the end and she had nearly forgotten about the rainbow-coloured bird. She only remembered it when hearing her father's call:

"Lucy! Come quickly. Dinner is ready."

"I am coming" said the little girl.

She only glimpsed to the sky once more.

14.

During the family dinner Lucy told her parents about her shool day.  Mum and Dad were happy when they heard about the three smilies she got and the praise of her reading. They asked her to paint again that picture for them that she draw on the blackboard.

15.

After dinner Lucy painted the rainbow-coloured bird with her own aquarel painting set.

"That is beautiful, Lucy!" exclaimed her mother. "Darling, you have got such a vivid imagination!"

The little girl just smiled quietly.

Her parents liked the painting so much that her father pinned it on the wall.

16.

That day Lucy had a good bath. She was playing so she did not want to come out of the bath when her mother told her to.

She brushed her teeth, put on her pajamas and got to her nice and warm bed.

The little girl dreamingly looked out of her window in the darkness.

17.

Mum hugged her in her bed and told her a bedtime story. The little girl usually fell asleep during the story-telling but that day she just could not.

"Please do not go yet" she asked her mother when she kissed her goodbye.

"Why, sweatheart?" Mum was surprised.

Lucy did not know what to answer. She glanced out of the window hoping she might see the rainbow-coloured bird again.

18.

Her mother looked out of the window, too.

"What a lovely night! Look at the stars, darling" she said.

But Lucy did not care about the stars. She looked at her mother's eyes.

"Mummy" started her seriously. "I was not imagining that rainbow-coloured bird I had drawn. I have really seen it. And not just once."

"Really, sweatheart?" Mum was puzzled.

19.

Dad came in the little girl's bedroom.

"Should not you be sleeping now, Lucy?" he asked.

"Our daughter is telling that she really saw that rainbow-coloured bird that she had painted us" told her wife.

The man looked puzzled, too. But the little girl cried:

"Mummy, Daddy, look, there it is."

The rainbow-coloured bird was sitting at the window-sill and looked at the family.

20.

"Wonderful!" exclaimed Mum and Dad.

The bird made a movement that seemed waving goodbye to them and flew away.

That day Lucy fell asleep with a smile and dreamed a wonderful deam. Can you guess what was it about?
